Tippecanoe hosts NOGA tournament

Approximately 150 golfers will compete today at the Four-Ball Championship event at Tippecanoe Country Club.

The event is sponsored by the Northern Ohio Golf Association. Today’s competition is the final 18 holes of play in this year’s event.

The Four-Ball Championship is a 36-hole, two-round event and consists of four flights: A, B, C, and Senior.

The first round was held on May 12 at Lake Forest Country Club.

This is the first year the Tippecanoe course has been chosen to host the event, said the club’s golf pro, Michael Spiech.

“We’ve been trying to get it here for a few years,” Spiech said. “There’s real prestige to being selected by NOGA to host this tournament.”

Players from any member NOGA club can field teams to participate.

“It is an honor to be chosen to host the NOGA tournament,” Tippecanoe President Robert Ferraro said. “This is the kind of recognition that justifies the pride we have in our golf course.

“It’s an outstanding design, kept in fast playing condition, and we have our superintendent of greens, Jerry Cox, to thank for that,” Ferraro said.

NOGA is comprised of 43 member clubs, including Tippecanoe and Youngstown Country Club.
