South Side house shot up this afternoon

YOUNGSTOWN — No one was injured after someone drove through the yard of a South Side home just after 12 p.m. today and fired several shots at the home.

A car in the driveway had its windows shattered by bullets, and several bullet holes could be seen in the door and side of the home at 56 Hilton Ave., but no one was inside at the time of the shooting.

There were two pit bulls inside but neither dog was harmed, police said. The dogs were left in the home when police left.

Police on the scene waited for a dog warden to show up because of the pit bulls then had firefighters breech the door before going inside and finding no one there.

Officers were instructed to be on the lookout for a purple pickup truck with an extended cab and a silver tailgate.

Several .45-caliber and 7.62mm shell casings were collected at the scene.

Tire tracks could be seen in the yard where a vehicle drove through and left on the other side of the yard.
