YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning County Bar Association’s annual lawyers’ memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday in the county domestic-relations courtroom, 120 Market St., fourth floor.

The ceremony will honor local lawyers who died within the past year, including John A. Tumbri, John Douglas Liber, John Weed Powers and John J. Dixon.

Public hearing

ELLSWORTH

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency’s remediation plans for the former Hilltop Landfill here will be the topic of a public hearing at 6:30 p.m. May 29 in the Ellsworth Township Hall at 11125 W. Akron-Canfield Road. The 20-acre site also is known as the Old Toth Landfill.

The hearing pertains to landfill cover and leachate collection improvements and groundwater monitoring. A draft plan and related documents may be reviewed at the Canfield Public Library, 43 W. Main St.

Staff changes

WARREN

The Raymond John Wean Foundation has made changes in its staffing. Beverly-Ann Burks joins the foundation as program officer for resident engagement. She is responsible for developing productive, positive relationships with partners aligned with the foundation’s work.

New office manager is Joette Orsini, responsible for organizing the foundation’s daily operations. Corrie Adams is now emergent-leaders liaison. In this role, she coordinates and provides leadership-development experiences for emerging-leader alumni.

Cheryl Crooks has been appointed business and grants officer. She serves as business/financial liaison to regulatory agencies, financial institutions and others. Lori Wiebe coordinates the daily operations of the office of the president in her new role as administrative and special-projects officer.

Nutrition classes

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County Ohio State Extension office, 490 S. Broad St., will offer an Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program titled “Eating Smart, Being Active.”

The program will include eight free classes for families with children up to 18, and is designed to give healthy tips regarding nutrition, physical activity, parenting tips, food safety and resource management ideas to those living on a low budget.

The information is based on the 2010 American Dietary Guidelines and MyPlate. Participants will enjoy food tastings and take home gifts for attending the classes. The classes will be scheduled for June, based on interest; call 330-533-5538, ext 111, by June 9.
