DOCTORATE

Physical-therapy degree

Kaylie Marie McMurray, daughter of Donald and Denise McMurray of Canfield, received her doctor of physical-therapy degree during a commencement ceremony May 3 at the University of Dayton.

Her group research project was selected to be published in a student physical-therapy journal. Dr. McMurray also won an outstanding performance in scholarship award for her work on the research project.

She is a 2007 graduate of Canfield High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Ohio State University in 2011.

Daniel J. Hammond, formerly of Boardman, received his doctorate in physical therapy at the 2014 spring commencement at Regis University in Denver.

Dr. Hammond, who now lives in Kent, Wash., is a 2006 Boardman High School graduate, and earned his bachelor’s degree in exercise science in 2010 at the University of Toledo. He is the son of Susan Hammond of Boardman and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Harvey of Tampa, Fla.

Administration degree

Rhonda S. Filipan, daughter of Ronald and Loretta Guido Filipan of Liberty, earned a doctorate in higher-education administration from Kent State University on May 9‚ã.

Her dissertation research focused on contingent women faculty activists and union organizers in higher education. She traveled throughout the U.S. to gather data and conduct interviews for her study. She is the author of a forthcoming book chapter on gender and working- class values in the academy.

Dr. Filipan is a graduate of Ursuline High School and has a bachelor’s degree in English and French from Youngstown State University, a master’s degree in English from YSU and a master’s degree of library science from KSU. She has more than two decades of professional experience in higher education. She is an academic-program coordinator at Kent’s main campus, and she lives in Stow.
