Fraud awareness
WARREN
For Ohio Public Assistance Fraud Awareness Month, Trumbull County Department of Job and Family Services wants the public to know in May that “Fraud Costs All of Us.”
In 2013, the state disbursed about $3 billion in food-assistance vouchers, $300 million in OhioWorks First cash assistance, $600 million in child-care subsidies and $1.8 billion in state and federal unemployment compensation.
People giving false information are removed from the program and must repay any improperly obtained benefits, officials say. They also may face criminal charges and jail time.
Trumbull residents may report suspected public assistance fraud by calling the JFS department at 330-675-2000.
