Busch wins truck race

CONCORD, N.C.

Kyle Busch continued his dominance at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the NASCAR Truck Series on Friday night, winning at the 1.5-mile track for the fourth time in the last five years.

Busch has won all three Truck Series races he has entered this season, taking the opener at Daytona and dominating last weekend at Kansas.

Busch led 130 of 134 laps but needed some patience to take the wreck-filled race that brought out nine cautions — including one as the white flag dropped — and sent 14 trucks behind the wall.

Series points leader Matt Crafton was second, followed by Brad Keselowski, John Wes Townley and Timothy Peters.

Colts’ Mathis suspended 4 games

INDIANAPOLIS

NFL sacks champion Robert Mathis admits he made a mistake late last season.

Now it’s going to cost him — four games and four paychecks.

The Colts’ career sacks leader was suspended Friday by the NFL after violating the league’s ban on performance-enhancing substances. What exactly Mathis tested positive for remains a mystery but the linebacker said in a statement he was seeking fertility assistance. He acknowledged that he and his wife are expecting a baby.

“I am deeply saddened that this situation will prevent me from contributing to my team for four games, and I regret that I didn’t cross check what my doctor told me before I took the medication, “ Mathis said. “I hope that my fans will understand the unique circumstances involved here.”

OWN postpones documentary on Sam

The planned documentary by the Oprah Winfrey Network on Michael Sam, the NFL’s first openly gay player, has been postponed.

Erik Logan, president of the network, said Friday that the postponement was made after meetings with the St. Louis Rams.

“After careful consideration and discussion with the St. Louis Rams, ‘The Untitled Michael Sam Project’ has been postponed, allowing Michael the best opportunity to achieve his dream of making the team,” Logan said in a statement.

Welker overpaid after Derby win

LOUISVILLE, Ky.

It turns out Wes Welker’s luck at the Kentucky Derby extended beyond the racetrack and into the cashier’s window.

Welker was seen at Churchill Downs with a large stack of cash and handing out $100 bills to random people earlier this month.

A spokesman for Churchill Downs said Friday that a patron believed to be a member of Welker’s group was accidentally overpaid $14,898. TMZ reported that the Denver Broncos receiver sent a friend to collect his winnings for him.

Although the track sent a letter to that individual seeking repayment, the track doesn’t expect to be repaid.
