A Newton Falls man is facing 26 sex charges involving two girls that could result in a prison sentence of more than 100 years.

Mark E. Carnes, 54, of Maple Street in Newton Falls, pleaded not guilty Friday during an arraignment in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Peter Kontos set bond at $250,000 and ordered that Carnes have no contact with the two purported victims.

In asking for the $250,000 bond, Gabe Wildman, assistant county prosecutor, said Carnes is accused of making threats of violence toward the two girls.

The charges include five counts of rape, 11 of pandering obscenities and five counts each of compelling prostitution and unlawful conduct with a minor.

The pandering charges relate to downloading and sharing pornography. The compelling prostitution involves offering to pay a minor for sex.

The offenses were committed against juvenile females between 2009 and 2014, according to indictments unsealed Friday in court.

The purported victim of the five rapes is now 18. The other victim is 16.

The offenses are alleged to have occurred at various locations in Trumbull County.
