YOUNGSTOWN

Oak Missionary Baptist Church, 320 Elk St., will celebrate its 78th anniversary Sunday. Sunday school begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship at 10:45 with guest speaker, the Rev. Grady Williams of Warren. At 4 p.m., the Rev. James Holmes, pastor of St. Peter’s Baptist Church, will speak, and dinner will be served. The celebration continues at 4 p.m. May 25 when the Rev. Kenneth Paramore and Christ Centered Church will be guests at the gathering with fellowship, food, music and praise dancers.

Pastor MeChelle Barnett of Faith Temple Church of God In Christ in Youngstown, will be guest speaker at noon Sunday at Ebenezer Life Center Church of God In Christ, 319 Goldie Road, where Ernest L. Walker III is senior pastor.

First sermon

YOUNGSTOWN

Andr a S. Brooks will preach her first sermon at 3 p.m. Sunday at Greater Friendship Baptist Church, 646 Lakewood Ave., where James C. Bowie is pastor.

She graduated in 1997 from The Rayen School. She attended Youngstown State University and Mahoning County Career and Technical Center. She is office manager at Endocrinology Association of Ohio in Canfield.

Brooks was baptized at Mount Calvary Church and rededicated her life to Christ at Everlife Worship Center. She is an active member of Greater Friendship where she serves as an assistant youth Sunday school teacher and is involved in the praise team and the We Care ministries. In 2012, Brooks received an associate of arts degree in religion from Liberty University Online.

Women’s Day

YOUNGSTOWN

Women’s Day services are planned at 11 a.m. Sunday at Christian Bible Baptist Church, 2369 Oak St. Ext., with speaker, Sharon Luke. Colors are white with pink. Dinner will be served after the service.

Unity breakfast

The men of Price Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church, 920 Dryden Ave., will host a Stop the Violence Unity Breakfast at 9 a.m. May 24.Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Glenn G. Grayson, pastor of Wesley Center A.M.E. Zion Church in Pittsburgh. He is recognized by President Barack Obama as a “champion of change,” who works to reduce gun violence.
