YMTA competition winners will perform in recital

The Youngstown Music Teachers Association-Youngstown State University Masters Competition took place May 10 at YSU. Nine winners were named out of 23 local piano students who competed in various divisions.

The competition chairwoman was Dr. Alice Wang, and judges were professors, all from YSU’s Dana School of Music.

The winners will give a recital at 4 p.m. Sunday at Bliss Recital Hall, One University Plaza, across from the Butler Institute of American Art.

The recital is open to the public and there will be no charge.

The division winners are:

• K to Three: Sophie Hu of Canfield, daughter of Yun Xia; and Gabriella Smallwood of Canfield, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Smallwood, both are students of Fanny DiDomenico.

• Four to Six: Joshua Greenbaum of Canfield, son of Dr. and Mrs. Arthur Greenbaum and student of Diane Debiec; and Kate Li of Warren, daughter of Frank Li and Teresa Ren and student of Fanny DiDomenico.

• Seven to Nine: Jessica Lee and Max Lee, both of Canfield and children of Ungian Liu and students of Fanny DiDomenico; Brandon Sharp of Austintown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Sharp and student of Sean Baran; and Rohun Vangal of Boardman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pandu Vangal and student of Diane Debiec.

• 10-12: Tommy Kuhns of Canfield, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Kuhns and student of Fanny DiDomenico.
