Shepherd of the Valley-Poland is accepting reservations for a second AAA Safe Driving for Mature Operators Course because the program for Monday and Wednesday is full. Call 330-726-7110, ext. 0, to be added to the waiting list.

The AAA Safe Driving for Mature Operators Course, taught by a state-certified AAA instructor, is designed for mature drivers 60 and older.

Topics include changes in vision, adjusting speed, road rage, drowsy driving, prescription medications, driving emergencies and more.

The course is approved for insurance discounts by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles under Ohio’s Motor Vehicle Accident Prevention Course for Drivers over 60. The insurance company determines the amount of the discount.

Breakfast event set

Talks on Warren-area economic development and an address by Warren Mayor Doug Franklin will highlight the Good Morning Warren breakfast 7:30 a.m. June 5 at the Hippodrome, 150 High St.

Michael Keys, Warren’s director of Community Development, and Sarah Boyarko, the Youngsotwn/Warren Regional Chamber’s vice president of Economic Development, North America, will give a joint presentation on their development efforts in the city and county.

Check-in and breakfast is at 7:30 a.m. with the program being from 8 to 9 a.m. Cost is $20 for chamber members and $30 for nonmembers. Register by calling 330-744-2131, ext. 12.

Scouts, association to sponsor pasta dinner

WARREN

Boy Scout Troop 15, Girl Scout Troop 80598 and the Northeast Warren Neighborhood Association will have a pasta dinner in honor of the Knights of Columbus 620 from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1947 E. Market Street.

Dinners will include pasta with meatballs, salad, bread and butter, dessert and drinks. Cost is $7.50 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12, free for children under 5.

Injured man taken to Warren hospital

WARREN

A 23-year-old Niles man was taken to ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday from the parking lot of USA Gas Mart, 317 Pine Ave SE, with a severe cut and because he was “unresponsive.”

Police learned that he had been in a fight with a male after arriving at the gas station with two other males. Police said it was not clear how he ended up on his back with blood coming from the back of his head.

Police attempted to interview him later at the hospital, but he was still “unresponsive and could not answer any ... questions.” A hospital spokesman said the man was transferred to another hospital, and no other information was available.

Questionnaire sent to Leetonia residents

Leetonia Village officials are requesting residents respond to a questionnaire being mailed to them within the next few days.

All information on the survey will go to Ohio’s Rural County Assistance Program and will be confidential.

Completed forms can be returned by mail in the addressed, postage-paid envelope included in the mailing or they can be dropped off at Leetonia Village Hall, 300 Main St. Village representatives will visit homes where no responses have been received within two weeks.

The survey is vital to the village, officials said.

Robbery at pizza place

Ianazone’s Pizza at 207 E. Marshall St. was held up just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Investigators say a woman with a gun took a large amount of cash, then sped away toward Girard driving a white Chevrolet Cruze, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, the Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Presentation planned on public relations

As part of The Raymond John Wean Foundation’s Capacity Building Series, Rob Palowitz and Ron Scirocco will present “Marketing and PR on a Shoestring Budget.

The workshop is from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Foundation’s Western Reserve Room, 147 W. Market St. The cost is $10 per person, and light refreshments will be provided. To register, go to the Raymond John Wean Foundation website.

Palowitz and Scirocco, who have more than 40 years of experience in marketing and advertising including work with nonprofit organizations, will offer marketing tips and outline specific areas where nonprofit organizations can reduce marketing costs and still have effective methods of branding their image.
