Salvation Army bikes to build awareness

In honor of Salvation Army week May 11–16, Salvation Army Mahoning County Area Services Coordinator, Major Elijah Kahn and board Chairman Tim Clayton will be riding in the Tour of Sciotto Valley River, a 210 mile bicycle trek along the Ohio River from Columbus to Portsmouth and back during Mother’s Day weekend. They hope to raise awareness and funding for The Salvation Army food pantry and soup kitchen by participating in the ride.

“We are excited about this unique endeavor and plan to host a ride next year in the Mahoning Valley as part of Salvation Army week. We encourage those of you who are hungry to make a difference to get involved and offer your support at one of the following sponsorship levels,” said Kahn.

The sponsorship levels are $300 (first gear), $200 dollars (second gear) and $100 (third gear). Sponsors’ logos will be on riders t-shirt. Donors who are unable to sponsor the ride can donate $2 for each mile you wish to sponsor.

Every month, The Salvation Army Mahoning County Area Services food pantry serves more than 1,000 bags of groceries to families in need while the soup kitchen serves more than 2,750 hot meals. The soup kitchen is open six days a week for hungry individuals struggling in the Mahoning Valley.
