The Canfield Presbyterian Church youth group had its annual Trash and Treasure Sale to raise funds for its summer mission trip to New Jersey May 3.

Members of the youth group started preparing for the sale during their 30-hour famine at the church and also spent the week leading up to the sale sorting through donations from the congregation and setting up the sale.

Several youth group members were on hand at the sale to check out customers, bag items and help customers out to their cars with their purchases.

Members of the church congregation donated all the items for the sale, including furniture, household items, picture frames, glassware, books, lamps, toys, holiday items and sporting equipment.

According to Julie Angelo, youth group leader, the 15 youth group and adult church members will travel to Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., the last week of July to help with clean up efforts associated with Hurricane Sandy.

The group is working with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance for the mission trip.

“We have had lots of volunteers and donations from the church members and we thank them for their support. Sherry and David Goddard are our trash and treasure gurus and we couldn’t hold this sale without them,” Angelo said.

When the sale was over, the Fish Samaritan House came to the church to collect the items which had not been sold. The organization assists families and individuals who are in need of items such as clothing, furniture and other household items.

All proceeds from the Trash and Treasure Sale go to all aspects of the youth group’s New Jersey mission trip.
