OHSAA penalizes Leetonia student

Staff report

A Leetonia High School student-athlete was penalized on Thursday by the Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors for committing a rules infraction.

According to the OHSAA, a student-athlete transferred to Leetonia in accordance with the bylaws. However, the school later discovered the family falsified their residence.

Since the falsification was discovered prior to any participation at Leetonia, only the student will be penalized by the OHSAA.

The student is ineligible at Leetonia or any other member school for the spring sports season, and must sit out the first half of the regular season for any fall or winter sport he might play.

All sanctions are lifted on Feb. 18, 2015.

NOTE

Results of the OHSAA competitive balance referendum will be announced at 1 p.m. today.
