YOUNGSTOWN

Police and fire agencies in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Lawrence County in Pennsylvania reported no significant damage from Wednesday’s storms.

Mercer County in Pennsylvania reported flooded roads and homes in Shenango Township and on Mercer Road right outside the borough, the dispatch center said. There also was flooding on Interstate 80 at the 10-mile marker.

Strong storms began coming through Northeast Ohio about 6 p.m. from the west and from the south, the National Weather Service in Cleveland said.

Heavy rain and hail were reported. Dime-sized hail was reported in Canfield and nickle-sized hail was reported in New Springfield.

Vindicator news partner 21 WFMJ-TV said a tornado watch was lifted before 11 p.m. for Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Expect a wet morning, said meteorologist Mike Joyce, with rain steady today, possibly heavy at times. A flood watch is in effect for Mahoning and Trumbull counties until 10 a.m. Friday.

Niles, Warren grants

The Niles and Warren fire departments have been awarded Operations and Safety grants through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Department of Homeland Security, announced U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th.

The Niles department received $157,325, and the Warren department received $60,948

The grants can be used for professional training, personal protective equipment,and supplies that support firefighting and EMS operations and safety.
