Cops find gun after house shot up

YOUNGSTOWN

Police found a.45-caliber semiautomatic handgun inside an SUV while investigating a shooting early Tuesday morning on the South Side.

Officers were on the lookout for an SUV that was described as being a vehicle used in the shooting of a house in the 100 block of Hilton Avenue about 1 a.m., reports said. Police were called back to the same house about 2:40 a.m. after gunfire sensors detected shots being fired there, reports said.

Officers in the area spotted an SUV that matched the description of the one used in the shooting about 3:05 a.m. and pulled it over in the 100 block of East Avondale Avenue, reports said. The driver, Amy Sharafan, 36, of Youngstown, was placed in a cruiser and was cited for driving under suspension, reports said.

Her passenger, Michael Young, 32, of Youngstown, was arrested on the charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm and shooting into a habitation, reports said. Reports said the gun was found in the back of the SUV.

In front of the Hilton Avenue home police found several shell casings, including some .45-caliber and 9mm casings, reports said.

No one was injured.
