Recycle tires, appliances, hazardous waste Saturday

Multiple recycling and litter-control efforts will take place Saturday in Mahoning County.
Tire and household-appliance recycling collections are scheduled simultaneously at the Covelli Centre under city and county sponsorship.
The tire drive is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and the appliance drive is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Up to 10 passenger-car tires will be accepted free of charge from Mahoning County residents. A $1.50 fee per passenger car tire will be charged thereafter.
Light truck and semi truck tires will be accepted for a fee that varies according to tire size.
In the appliance collection, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, microwave ovens, refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, stoves and any other appliances made mostly of metal will be accepted. Freon will be removed free of charge.
A citywide litter cleanup in Youngstown is planned for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, with participants meeting at the Covelli Centre to pick up supplies for cleaning streets, parks and vacant lots.
The county will conduct a household hazardous-waste collection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Canfield Fairgrounds, with motorists entering via Gate 9.
A long list of items is being accepted for disposal there, including oil-based paint, automotive fluids, acids, poisons, cylinder fluorescent bulbs, stains, aerosol cans, propane cylinders, herbicides, gasoline, thinners, pool chemicals, caulks, pesticides, car batteries, photo chemicals, mercury, greases, antifreeze, used motor oil, varnish, bleach, household cleaners, lighter fluid, shellac, wood preservatives, solvents, insecticides, roof coatings, glue and adhesives and double-bagged asbestos.
The container-size limit is 5 gallons; latex paint will not be accepted.
