Girard cheerleaders earn recognition

GIRARD
The Girard High School Cheer Competition Squad received recognition recently at the Girard Board of Education meeting for accomplishments during the past season.
The squad competed at four local contests held by Cheer Time Athletics. Girard placed first in the Large Varsity Division as well as Overall Champions, the highest score in all divisions, at all four competitions. On the team are two standout tumblers, Brandi Shonce and Caitlyn Trebella, who took the top honors in the tumbling segments of each competition.
At regionals, the squad qualified for the State of Ohio Cheerleading Championship. The girls took second place in the State of Ohio Cheerleading Championship, Division III nonmount division.
The squad comprises seniors Sarina Buonavolonta, Julie Cardiero, Juliana Cario, Alexa DeVore, Tayler Johnson, Molly Malito, Stephanie Marsico and Mallorie Molek; juniors Mattie Barnett, Mallory Byers, Schonce and Trebella; sophomores Chaylee Bentley, Haley Cramer and Taylor Schlatter; and freshmen Cristiana Cario, Kamryn Johnson and Emily Marsico. Shelly Powell is head coach, and assistants are Mary Helen Rau and Samantha Thomas.
