Living Testimony Ministries will host a community fun day fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 31 at Family Dollar, 1833 Oak St. Food, games and music will be offered. All proceeds will benefit the Living Testimony Ministries back-to-school giveaway.

Celebration planned
YOUNGSTOWN
The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP), the community action agency in Mahoning County, is celebrating Community Action Awareness Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday at Wick Park Recreation Center in Wick Park, 260 Park Ave.
Youngstown Mayor John McNally will present a proclamation to MYCAP at noon; there will be free food beginning at 11:30 a.m.; more than 20 local agencies will offer information about their services and programs, and there will be giveaways and activities for children.
Road work to begin Monday on Route 45
Lisbon
Work is set to begin Monday to improve safety at the intersection of state Route 45 at North Market Street and Saltwell Road north of Lisbon.
Construction will include new sidewalks, retaining walls, curb ramps and audible pedestrian signals. Two signal poles also will be installed in the northwest quadrant of the project area, and wheelchair ramps will be constructed at crosswalks throughout construction limits.
Traffic will be maintained, however, there will be an 11-foot lane width restriction.
ODOT’s contractor for the $195,639 project is Central-Allied Enterprises Inc. of Canton, with a completion date in July.
Group will discuss neighborhood issues
YOUNGSTOWN
Cochran Park Neighbors, discussing issues regarding the Cambridge, Palmer, Roxbury, East Judson and south area, will meet 6:30 p.m. today at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 388 E. Midlothian Blvd.
The group will discuss neighborhood issues as well as a block-watch cleanup planned for Friday and Saturday.
Youngstown city councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will attend. All are welcome.
Niles cheerleaders win U.S. finals competition
NILES
The Xtreme Allstars cheerleaders from Niles won first place in the U.S. Finals competition last month in Chicago in the Mini and Youth divisions.
The teams, which practice at the Niles Wellness Center, are coached by Marian Mitolo-Diana, April Kendra, Jessica Ross and Jaclyn Gerba. The teams, which formed less than a year ago, have competed in Pittsburgh; Cleveland; Columbus and Erie, Pa., where they earned the right to compete in the U.S. Finals.
