POLAND

Whether you’re stuck at the red light on the busy Youngs-town-Poland Road or not, the red barn and lush green fields of Zedaker’s Anjon Acres draws your attention and will cause you to ask yourself: “A farm here, really?”

But the 11-acre farm isn’t a new scene in Poland; it’s been Zedaker’s for four generations.

Since 1948, Zedaker’s has offered riding lessons and now has an after-school volunteer program and therapy alpacas. Ann and John Zedaker took ownership of the farm in 1977. The couple renamed it Zedaker’s Anjon Acres — a combination of their first names. Ann has continued to run the farm since John’s death in 2010.

Aside from Ann, the farm has seven part-time teachers who have many years of riding experience.

Aubri Warminski, 18, of Hubbard has been riding for more than 13 years and has been giving lessons at Anjon’s for eight years. Warminski says one thing that sets Anjon’s apart from others is the style of English riding (versus Western), which she describes as “sophisticated” and is reliant on good posture and form.

As summer nears, Warminski says that the farm will become busier with students whose parents often have them volunteer to keep busy. She got her start at Anjon’s as a volunteer and thinks that volunteering at the farm is a good summer activity.

Though most think of Poland as a more urban area, the beautiful farm looks inviting and warm. The fields, though still recovering from the freeze and thaw of winter, are green and lush, calling us to move forward to spring and summer, promising a field of horses and a farm that will continue into the next generation of Zedakers.
