Sarah Garcia, a Youngstown native and doctoral student at Kent State University, has obtained an American Psychological Association-accredited internship at the UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior.

She earned her undergraduate degree from the College of Wooster, where she graduated magna cum laude.

At KSU, she received the Lillian Friedman Award for outstanding research in mental health.

She is the daughter of James and Debra Garcia of Youngstown.

DOCTORATEs

Shea Seivert, son of Michael and Barbara Seivert of Canfield, will receive his doctor of pharmacy degree Saturday from the Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown. He completed extensive coursework in the areas of pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacy management, compounding and medication therapy management.

Dr. Seivert completed 2,000 hours of practical experience at various sites throughout Northeast Ohio, including Giant Eagle pharmacy, St. Elizabeth Health Center, Northside Medical Center, Alliance Community Hospital, the Prescription Assistance Network in Stark County and Pharmacy Data Management.

While at NEOMED, he participated in extracurricular activities including Project OutReach, a student-run medical clinic designed to assist the underserved population of Portage County. It is the first clinic of its kind in Ohio. He is a member of the American Pharmacists Association.

Before attending NEOMED, Dr. Seivert attended Youngstown State University, majoring in chemistry. He made the dean’s list multiple times and was a member of the American Chemical Society. He is a 2007 graduate of Youngstown Christian School.

After graduation, he will begin his career with Rite-Aid in the Greater Cleveland area, serving as a floater pharmacist.

Shawna L. Rohrman, daughter of Trish Rohrman of Struthers and Keith Rohrman of New Middletown, earned a doctorate in sociology from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., during a ceremony Friday.

Rohrman is a 2000 graduate of Struthers High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology from Baldwin Wallace University and a master’s degree in sociology from the University of Akron.

After graduation, Rohrman is slated to begin an assistant professorship at North Central University in Naperville, Ill.
