HOWLAND

Three people got out of their house safely at 626 Brentwood Drive NE after it caught fire at 1:43 a.m. Friday. A 60-year-old male was transported to the hospital for evaluation, and firefighters rescued a cat from the residence, which is off state Route 46 near Howland Township Park.

Because of the severity of the fire, all three people are being assisted by the American Red Cross, which provided temporary living areas.

A 21-year-old resident of Butler Street Northeast found two masked men inside her house at 2:48 p.m. Friday. The woman was taking a shower and heard her dog growl.

She went downstairs and found a man in her living room. She screamed at him to “get out,” then saw a second man standing in her enclosed porch. Both men fled, but her 32-inch television was missing from her living room.

Police found fresh pry marks on the interior door leading into the house and a rip in the screen door leading to the enclosed patio.
