Residents can support local animal rescues by attending an adoption event at Boardman Petco, 317 Boardman Poland Road, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. Local animal groups such as West Side Cats and Animal Charity will be present with adoptable pets. Snacks will be available for dogs and cats that attend the event, and West Side Cats’ official mascot, Smoochie the cat, will attend. The event is free and open to the public.

Suicide awareness

The seventh annual Survivors of Suicide Awareness Walk in memory of loved ones who have died by suicide is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Trumbull County Courthouse Gazebo, Courthouse Square.

Families, friends and the public are invited to attend and urged to bring photos or signs to highlight the loss of loved ones to suicide. Suicide is the 10th-leading cause of death in the United States. For information, call Help Hotline at 800-427-3606.
