YSU trustees emerge without comment on presidency

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown State University Presidential Search Advisory Committee emerged after four hours of executive session today, and made no comment on a recommendation for the university’s next president.

Dr. Sudershan Garg, board of trustees president, said trustees do not yet know the next step. The trustees make up the search committee.

Trustees at the University of Akron will meet in executive session this afternoon for the next step in their presidential process.

The universities’ searches have something in common besides timing: Jim Tressel.

The former head football coach at YSU and Ohio State University, who is now UA’s executive vice president for student success, is a finalist for president at both institutions.

Gary L. Miller, chancellor at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington, and Mary Cullinan, president of Southern Oregon University, are the other YSU finalists.

The other UA finalists are Ronald A. Nykiel, provost and vice president of academic affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Princess Anne, Md.; and Scott L. Scarborough, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at The University of Toledo.

UA trustees also have meetings scheduled for Monday and May 19.
