Police found five men with canisters of explosives after they responded to calls about gunshots and loud explosions in woods near Sampson Drive.
A report said police arrived about 9 p.m. Monday to find the men shooting at a target in the woods southwest of 5460 Sampson.
They were on someone else’s property without permission, police said.
The police report indicates the discovery of exploding targets, but police said they found another potentially unstable mixture in one of the canisters, and they called the Youngstown bomb squad.
The bomb squad picked it up for disposal.
The men were issued citations and have to appear in Girard Municipal Court. They are Christopher M. Rose, 25, Crum Road; Andrew E. Lippiatt, 22, Kerrybrook Drive; Justin A. Braun, 23, Concord Avenue; Matthew S. Baciar, 25, North Hartford Avenue; and Jonathan M. Seroka, 29, Santa Monica Drive.
