Mahoning commissioners commemorate centennial of extension office program
YOUNGSTOWN — The Mahoning County commissioners presented county extension office officials with a resolution this morning commemorating the centennial of the extension office program.
Today is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Smith-Lever Act, the act of Congress which created the national Cooperative Extension System to educate the public concerning agriculture and home economics.
Mahoning County’s extension office is at 490 S. Broad St., Canfield.
The commissioners also approved a contract of up to $50,000 with Environmental Enterprises Inc. of Cincinnati, which will dispose of waste from a household hazardous waste collection from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The company will be paid from landfill dumping fee income to the county’s recycling division.
