Campbell chief commends officer

CAMPBELL

For his arrest of a 19-year-old Youngstown man urinating in public earlier this week, Ryan Bloomer, an officer in the Campbell Police Department, was recognized Wednesday with an official commendation letter from the police chief.

At about 11:15 p.m. Monday, Bloomer noticed the man -- identified as Kaylan B. Taylor, of Bennington Avenue -- urinating near a bus stop on Murray Avenue. Despite the officer's commands for Taylor to stop and to come over to the cruiser, Taylor began running down the street. He continued ignoring Bloomer, then boarded a WRTA bus -- on which he was eventually arrested for disorderly conduct and obstructing official business. Upon Taylor's arrival at the police station, he began yelling and kicking, and caused a large dent in the department's evidence locker. He was also charged with criminal damaging.

Bond for Taylor, who will appear in Campbell Municipal Court at 9 a.m. Friday, was set at $3,000, 10 percent cash or surety. He will remain at the Mahoning County jail until his court appearance.

In Bloomer's commendation letter, Police Chief Drew Rauzan states that efforts like Bloomer's are what make him "especially proud as a police chief."
