Parking locations are Eastwood Field and the Delphi-Packard lot in Howland
VIENNA
Patrons of the Thunder Over the Valley Air Show 2014 on May 17-18 at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station must park at designated off-base sites in Niles and Howland and be shuttled via bus to the show.
The parking locations are Eastwood Field, 111 Eastwood Mall Blvd., at Eastwood Mall in Niles, and Phantom Fireworks property at Delphi-Packard Electric Systems, 165 N. River Road in Howland.
Admission to Thunder Over The Valley is free.
Round-trip shuttle service to the air show, however, is $5 per seat unlimited all day both days, officials said.
“During our last air show, Air Force funds covered the cost of busing. In the current fiscal climate, that is not possible,” said Col. James Dignan, commander of the 910th Airlift Wing and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station.
“We are pleased our private-sector community partners are able to transport our guests to the air show for a nominal but necessary fee,” he added.
In conjunction with the Youngstown Air Reserve Base Community Council, Youngstown Air Partners, Community Bus Services and several local law-enforcement agencies and businesses, YARS released its parking and transportation plan for the air show Monday.
The parking areas will open and bus-pass sales begin at 8 a.m. on both show days. Shuttle service begins at 8:45 a.m., and show gates open at 9 a.m. Once parked, guests can purchase their shuttle ticket, board a bus, and be transported to YARS for the show.
Air-show guests can tune into several local radio stations for real-time traffic and parking updates. They are 93.3 FM, 95.9 FM, 98.9 FM, 106.1 FM, 570 AM and 1390 AM. Additional stations may be added before the show, officials said.
Bus passes may be purchased from CBS before the show beginning Monday at Eastwood Mall.
Shuttles transporting guests to YARS will cease operations at 3 p.m. Shuttles returning guests to parking areas will operate until the show grounds close at 7 p.m.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Flying performances begin at 11:45 a.m. Between the gates opening and the opening ceremonies, there will be static aircraft displays, historic warbird flyovers, RC aircraft performances and other entertainment.
