More than 30 health care vendors offering screenings for blood pressure, glucose, pulse, hearing and much more will be featured at the Mahoning Valley Healthcare Education Collaborative’s first Mahoning Valley Health Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 22 at Antone’s Banquet Centre, 8578 Market St.
The Mahoning Valley Healthcare Education Collaborative consists of the Youngstown State University Gerontology Department, YSU Metro College and Ivy Woods Manor, combined with Cornerstone Home Health, Crossroads Hospice, Greenbriar Healthcare Center, Home Instead Senior Care, Shepherd of the Valley, Sunrise Senior Living and Vibra Hospital.
The focus of the collaborative is to provide continuing-education sessions to health care professionals in the region as well as an annual health expo to the community.
“There are thousands of health care professionals throughout the Mahoning Valley who are in need of high-quality, low-cost, continuing education to maintain their certifications and licenses,” said Ron Chordas, YSU associate provost for University Outreach. “This new collaborative will work to fill those needs by providing local, monthly, continuing-education opportunities throughout Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties,” he said.
The collaborative’s long-term goal is to offer continuing-education classes on a variety of topics monthly from September through May.
The expo is open to the public.
By invitation only, a continuing-education program will take place after the expo for vendors and health care providers.
A social hour will start at 3:30 p.m., with dinner at 4:30 and a presentation at 5:30.
Daniel J. VanDussen, YSU associate professor and coordinator of the YSU Gerontology program, will present the first collaborative education session on “Ethics and Rehospitalizations.” CEUs will be available.
Registration is required for the invitation-only activities. Seating is limited. To make a reservation, call 330-941-2465 by Tuesday.
