In observance of World Ovarian Cancer Day, the Rose Mary Flanagan Ovarian Cancer Foundation and the NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Foundation present a screening of the movie “No Evidence of Disease” on Thursday at the Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.

The doors will open at 6 p.m., and the screening begins at 6:30. To reserve tickets, which are $12 each, visit www.rmfocf.org. To learn about the movie, visit www.nedthemovie.com.

There also will be a dessert reception and a chat session with ovarian-cancer survivor Katie Ricciuti Kline, founder of the NormaLeah Ovarian Cancer Foundation, and Jodie Shagrin Kavensky and Dr. Paul Rich.

Annual art show

CANFIELD

The Mahoning County Educational Service Center will have its annual art show at 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Joyce Brooks Center at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center, 7300 N. Palymra Road.

The free public event begins with a gallery walk and refreshments. MCESC has hosted the event for 27 years. The art show recognizes high-school students who have an interest and talent in the visual arts. Entries are submitted through the art departments in area school districts. This year, 16 schools participated.

First-, second-, third-place and honorable mention awards are given in each of the show’s 23 categories. Special recognition will go to Margaret Stanko, a student from Canfield High School, who received this year’s Best of Show award. Jarrell Puzey, a student from Mahoning County High School, received the Student Purchase Award and will receive $100 from MCESC.

Awareness event

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning-Youngstown Community Action Partnership, 1325 Fifth Ave., is celebrating Community Action Awareness Month with an event at Wick Park Recreation Center, 260 Park Ave., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 16.

The free event is an opportunity to learn about community action, MYCAP, other local agencies and the programs for which people may be eligible.

There will be activities for the family, including food, games, prizes, face painting and a bounce-a-round.
