Giddings family to honor couple’s 60th milestone

Mr. and Mrs. James Giddings Sr. of Niles were married 60 years ago Feb. 6.

They were married in 1954 in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.

Mr. Giddings was a welder in the Navy shipyards for five years and then became an owner-operator in the trucking industry for more than 40 years.

During that time he was leased to Glenn Cartage Co., Kaplan Trucking, Trans American Trucking, ACL Trucking and Horizon Trucking.

Mrs. Giddings graduated from the Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse at the former Warren General Hospital, in several doctors’ offices and as a school nurse in Warren City Schools.

Mr. and Mrs. Giddings are members of Liberty Assembly of God, Girard, where they are involved in the children’s department and serve as ushers.

The couple had five children: Cathy (Roy) Barnett of Liberty; Mary Jane (Elmer) Norris of Jefferson, Ohio; James L. Jr. (Dawna) Giddings of Vienna; and Ronald (Carol) Giddings of Richmond, Va. A son, Larry Giddings, is deceased.

The Giddingses also have 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Giddings and his wife, Mattie, will be honored when the family celebrates their anniversary with a camping reunion in July.
