Recognition dinner
VIENNA
The Armed Forces Recognition dinner, sponsored by the Youngstown Air Reserve Base Community Council, is set for May 14 at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station’s Community Activity Center, 3976 King-Graves Road.
The cost is $25 per person or $200 per table. No tickets will be sold at the door. For reservations, call Holly Baker at 330-531-0120.
Commander elected
YOUNGSTOWN
Leo H. Connelly Jr. recently was elected commander of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2.
Connelly, a member of the Mahoning County Veterans Service Commission and a highly decorated Vietnam War combat veteran, is a lifetime member of the DAV.
Other officers elected are Tony Revetti, adjutant; Tom Moss, senior vice commander; Robert Cooke, junior vice commander; James Carmany, treasurer; Anthony Tisler, sergeant-at-arms; and Dale Baringer, chaplain.
ACADEMY NEWS
Merchant Marine
CANFIELD
Kaylee Kilbert, a senior at Canfield High School, has received an appointment to the Merchant Marine Academy.
Nominated by U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland, Kilbert is one of some 250 selected to attend the academy out of more than 2,200 applicants.
Completion of the four-year curriculum, which includes three trimesters at sea on U.S. Flag Merchant vessels and Navy ships as well as an internship, leads to a bachelor’s degree, a Merchant Marine officer’s license as an engineering officer and a commission in the Navy Reserve.
Kilbert, the daughter of Richard and Teresa Kilbert of Canfield and granddaughter of Richard and Marianne Kilbert of Warren, also will participate on the Mariners track and field team.
