Whispering Pines to host Friends of Scouting breakfast
The public is invited to the Whispering Pines District Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scouts of America ninth annual Friends of Scouting breakfast fundraiser June 3 at Camp Stambaugh, located at 3712 Leffingwell Road in Canfield.
This year’s theme is a memorial tribute to Robert Zedaker, George Grim and John Wolboldt, which will celebrate their local impact in scouting and recognizes their dedicated combined service of more than 150 years to scouting and contributions to their communities.
Serving as Master of Ceremonies is Stacia Erdos.
Guest speakers will include Eagle Scout Alec Ball, who recently achieved his Eagle Scout Award from Boy Scout Troop 44 in Poland, and Jason Wolf, the Scout Executive of the Greater Western Reserve Council, who will give the State of Scouting Report.
This year’s celebration will also showcase the 95th anniversary of Stambaugh Scout Reservation which houses Camp Stambaugh and Camp Akela and the Scouting Museum of the Greater Western Reserve Council. Movers will transport attendees through camp to the dining hall.
The Whispering Pines District of the Greater Western Reserve Boy Scout Council serves families in Mahoning County and Hubbard, with 1,215 youth involved in 42 units supported by 536 adult volunteers.
The fundraiser will strengthen the scouting program for youth and families in the district. Scouting strives to develop leadership, character, citizenship and life-saving skills while enjoying camping, hiking, rock climbing and more.
Breakfast begins at 7:15 a.m. and reservations are required by calling Preston Cockrell at 330-898-8474 or preston.cockrell@scouting.org.
