Investigation ends in Lowellville bar fight

Staff report

LOWELLVILLE

Village police say the investigation into a Feb. 15 fight that began as a verbal argument inside the Mount Carmel Society bar and escalated in the 102 Washington St. parking lot has concluded.

The melee resulted in injuries, including a broken jaw and facial cuts to a 28-year-old Lowellville man who attempted to break up the fight.

Those involved in the incident were arrested on a host of misdemeanor and felony charges — the latter of which were reduced last week.

According to Struthers Municipal Court, the charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest against 22-year-old James Perry of Badal Drive in Lowellville were dismissed April 25.

Perry pleaded no contest to two charges of disorderly conduct, one of which was reduced from an assault charge. A judge found him guilty. Both charges carried with them a $100 fine, plus court costs and 30 days in jail with the jail time suspended.

The assaulting-a-police-officer and obstructing-official-business charges also were dismissed April 25 for 22-year-old Ryan Whinery of New Castle Road in Lowellville. Whinery’s two charges of disorderly conduct were amended from a resisting-arrest charge and a fourth-degree misdemeanor disorderly-conduct charge. He pleaded no contest to both, and a judge found him guilty. He was fined $100 on each charge and ordered to pay court costs.

Adam Kimmell, 29, of Veterans Road in New Castle, Pa., also faces disorderly conduct and assault charges, and will appear in Struthers Municipal Court on Aug. 1 for a pretrial hearing.
