BOARDMAN

The man accused in a Boardman bank robbery will have a preliminary hearing in area court at 10:30 a.m. June 10.

Robert Naples, 42, of Poplar Street, Youngstown, was booked on a charge of aggravated robbery Thursday by township police. He was arraigned the same day in Mahoning County Area Court, and his bond was set at $50,000.

He declined to provide police with a written statement about the incident, according to a police report.

Naples is accused of passing a note that said: “I got a gun. Give me 100s, 50s, 20s now,” to a teller at the Huntington Bank branch inside the Giant Eagle on Boardman-Poland Road on April 25.

Police responded to the bank about 6:40 p.m. to discover the suspect had fled in a taxi that was waiting outside.

Surveillance video also showed the cab dropping off the suspect at the bank, according to a police report.

Naples also is charged with the aggravated robbery of the Charter One Bank on South State Street in Girard on April 26.

He later was caught by police on Interstate 80 after he was seen at a Girard restaurant.

A cash or surety bond was set at $75,000 in Girard Municipal Court, where he will have a preliminary hearing on the robbery charge at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Naples is in Trumbull County Jail.
