Warren man shot in attempted robbery

WARREN

A 35-year-old Southern Boulevard Northwest man was shot in the hand at 1:05 a.m. today in a struggle with a man who attempted to rob him in the stairwell of his Avon Oaks apartment.

The victim said he was arriving home and walking to the entrance of the apartment when a male wearing a mask confronted him and demanded his belongings as they entered the stairwell.

The two struggled, with the suspect firing several gunshots, one of them striking the victim in the hand, the victim said. The victim said he struck the suspect with his fist, knocking the gun away.

The victim then picked up the gun and attempted to fire at the suspect, but the suspect ran away, he said.
