Prelim hearing set for Boardman bank robbery suspect

BOARDMAN — The man accused in a Boardman bank robbery will have a preliminary hearing in area court here on June 10.

Robert Naples, 42, of Poplar Street was booked on the charge of aggravated robbery Thursday by township police.

He was also arraigned Thursday in Mahoning County Area Court, where his bond was set at $50,000.

He declined to provide police a written statement about the incident, according to a police report.

Naples is accused of passing a, "I got a gun. Give me 100s, 50s, 20s now," note to a teller at Huntington Bank inside the Giant Eagle on Boardman-Poland Road on April 25.

Police responded to the bank about 6:40 p.m. to discover the suspect had already fled in a taxi cab that was waiting outside.

Surveillance video also showed the cab dropping Naples off, according to a police report.

Naples is also charged in the April 26th Charter One Bank robbery on South State Street in Girard.

He was later caught by police on Interstate 80 after he was spotted at a Girard restaurant.

A cash or surety bond was set at $75,000 in Girard Municipal Court, where he will have a preliminary hearing on the robbery charge at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
