Ohio man convicted of killing wife's boyfriend

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — A northwest Ohio man is facing a sentence of life in prison after a jury convicted him of fatally shooting and stabbing his estranged wife’s boyfriend last summer.

The jury in Toledo deliberated more than five hours before convicting 34-year-old David Zielinski on Thursday for the death of 20-year-old Michael Jackson in July. He also was found guilty of kidnapping his now ex-wife, Amber Hayes, and felonious assault for shooting at her.

The Blade newspaper in Toledo reports that Zielinski is facing life in prison with no possibility of parole for 18 years when he is sentenced Tuesday.

An autopsy found Jackson was shot six times and stabbed twice. Zielinski testified that he didn’t plan to kill anyone. He said the confrontation turned deadly after Jackson cut him on the leg.
