The Rotary Club of Austintown enabled some Fitch students to spend a day with professionals in their field of interest March 31. This opportunity is part of the Rotary’s focus on vocational education and is an annual event. Members of the Fitch Interact Club, sponsored by Rotary, spent time with several professionals.
In the medical profession, Kaelyn Snyder spent the morning with long time Rotarian Dr. Mitch Dalvin. A member since 1984, Dalvin maintains his podiatry practice in Austintown on S. Raccoon Road. Jessica Halas, a junior, spent the day hosted by Chief Robert Gavalier and the Austintown Police Department.
Alexis Saunders was with Dr. Courtney O’Neil at the Mahoning Valley Veterinary Clinic, located in Mineral Ridge. Fitch junior Jasmine Washington learned a lot at Higgins Funeral Home, hosted by Kristina Vecchione. Cheyenne Hammond joined Dr. Paul Gordiejew in the Anthropology Department at YSU.
Driving to Youngstown, Justin Shaughnessy was in the Mahoning County Courthouse with attorney Melissa Rocci, a Fitch alumni. Alex Connors was mentored by Tracie Kaglic of Jaminet and Associates architecture. Kaglic is a key part of the new Austintown Schools and an involved community member through Rotary.
After spending the morning with their hosts, both students and mentors attended the meeting of the Rotary Club of Austintown at the Saxon Club to discuss their observations for the day. Weekly meetings of the Rotary Club take place at the Saxon Club, with President Mark Cole presiding. Prospective members can contact Cole at 330-720-0381.
