Boys baseball loses

The Spartan baseball team suffered through recent losses to North Canton Hoover 3-2 and Austintown Fitch 8-6 and 8-5. Hoover broke a 2–2 tie with one run in the top of the seventh inning. The Spartan effort came up short when they left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh. Gino Beato had two hits to pace the Spartan offense. Jake Baun suffered the complete game loss. In game one of the Fitch double header, the Spartans kept a 6–5 lead going into the sixth inning. After getting the first two batters out on the sixth, the falcons pushed three runs across. Brian Fryda and Gino Beato had two hits each for Boardman. Phil Diianni and Lou Cardona each doubled. Scott Lendak had two RBIs. The second game had the Spartans boasting leads of 2-0 and 5-3 before Fitch took the lead in the fifth inning. Phil Diianni had three hits while Brian Fryda and Scott Lendak had two each.

Boardman baseball loses game

Recently, the 2014 Spartan baseball team fell to Brunswick 1–0 and 4–2, followed by losses to Canton Glen Oak 3–2 and Poland 6–4. Eddie Crump and Scott Lendak were the hard luck losers in the Brunswick double header. Jake Baun took the loss in the Glen Oak game. Lou Cardona had two hits with a double in the Brunswick 4–2 game. Cardona and Brian Fryda had two hits each in the first game of the Poland double header. In game two, Evan Croutch had two hits and two RBIs. Boardman’s record as of April 19 is 2-10. Seven of the Spartan losses have been by two runs or less.

In order to get teams and players the recognition they deserve, we want to showcase them in our pages. We can only do that if you commit to sending us game reports and photos each week. If you send it, it will get in.

The sports news we’re looking for ranges from varsity high school teams down to middle school and even elementary and recreational leagues.
