YOUNGSTOWN

Streets in Youngstown will be closed today and Friday for three events: East Federal Street between Champion and Market streets and Wick Avenue will be closed from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a National Day of Prayer event; Hazel Street between Lincoln and Rayen avenues will be closed from 5 to 11 p.m. for a Live on Lincoln event sponsored by Penguin Productions and Youngstown State University; and East Boardman Street between Champion and Walnut streets will be closed from noon Friday to 2 a.m. Tuesday to accommodate the 2014 Cinco De Mayo celebration sponsored by Los Gallos.

Faces drug charges

CAMPBELL

Bond was set for a 45-year-old city man arrested late Monday on a warrant and charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

Frank Consiglio of Courtland Avenue faces a felony drug-possession charge, which resulted from police finding a bag of suspected crack cocaine in his possession. Bond was set at $5,000 after his appearance Tuesday in Campbell Municipal Court.

He also faces charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear in court last year to answer to charges including driving under suspension and having expired plates.

Consiglio posted bond Wednesday, police said. He was arrested at about 9:30 p.m. Monday after officers on patrol on Coitsville Road identified and stopped him because of the warrant.

Man stabbed to death

HERMITAGE, PA.

Police say a man was stabbed to death at an apartment in the 1500 block of Parke Drive after arguing early Wednesday over a cellphone.

Officers were called to the complex at about 3:30 a.m. and found Eric Williams, 32, bleeding from a stab wound. He was taken to UPMC Shenango Medical Center in Farrell, where he later died.

When officers arrived, 37-year-old Lashara Wilder was trying to treat Williams, reports said. Police later charged Wilder with criminal homicide after they learned Williams was stabbed when he was trying to leave the apartment with a cellphone the pair were arguing about.

Siren testing set

HERMITAGE, PA.

Hermitage Fire Department will conduct its monthly test of the area’s weather warning sirens at 10 a.m. today. The test will include activation of the Clark, Farrell, Sharpsville, West Middlesex and Wheatland weather sirens. Residents are asked to disregard the alerting sirens during the test.

Employee robbed

WARREN

An employee of Wash Well Laundromat, 2296 N. River Road NE, was robbed at gunpoint of $1,583 in cash at 2:40 p.m. Tuesday as she prepared to leave the laundry with the receipts from the business.

A man in a black/dark purple sport utility vehicle pulled up behind her and blocked her into her parking space. The man got out of his vehicle, walked to her passenger door, opened it, pointed a gun at her and said, “Give me everything you have.”

She handed him the deposit bag, and he got in his vehicle and drove away. Two other males were in his car.

The suspect was described as 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and skinny with dark skin. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt with the hood over his head.

Boy charged with theft

BOARDMAN

Police arrested a 13-year-old boy after he was accused of stealing a $150 tablet from Boardman Center Middle School on Market Street.

A teacher informed the assistant principal of the theft Tuesday.

The teacher knew the boy had been using the tablet before it went missing. When she realized the electronic device was missing, the teacher had the students, including the boy, look for it.

The tablet was found in the boy’s book bag.

Surveillance video showed the boy putting the tablet in his book bag inside of his locker.

The boy was released to a parent with a note the juvenile court would notify him of a court date.

Rare bills stolen

SHARON, PA.

Sharon Police Department is investigating the theft of two rare bills — one $1,000, the other, $500 — from a residence in the 200 block of Smith Avenue.

If any agency, merchant or bank encounters someone attempting to pass or sell them, they should contact the police department at 724-983-3210.

VIP program kickoff

YOUNGSTOWN

City police will be joined by several other law-enforcement agencies at a 2:30 p.m. press conference in council chambers today to officially kick off the Violence Interruption Patrols program.

The program puts extra officers on the road in high crime areas to deter crime and find weapons.

The city already has been running a modified version of the program for several weeks.

Expected to be on hand are police Chief Robin Lees, Mayor John A. McNally and representatives from the U.S. attorney’s office.

Gun found during routine traffic stop

YOUNGSTOWN

Police reports said officers found a loaded .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun underneath the driver’s seat of a car they pulled over for no front license plate at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Randolph Avenue and Salt Springs Road on the West Side.

Police took Jerry Ayala, 32, of Oakwood Avenue, to Mahoning County jail on a charge of improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Reports said when a pair of vice-squad officers pulled Ayala over, he appeared nervous but did give officers permission to search his car, which is when they found the gun.
