Cruze sales dip slightly in April


Sales of the Lordstown-built Chevrolet Cruze fell slightly in April but remained solid on the year, as General Motors reported a 7 percent increase in sales last month, compared to a year ago.

GM sold 21,752 units of the Cruze in April, down 1.3 percent from 22,032 this time last year. In the first four months of 2014, Cruze sales totaled 86,937, up 11.8 percent from 77,763 during the same period in 2013.

“Retail demand was steady in April, and truck sales and transaction prices were especially strong,” Kurt McNeil, U.S. vice president of sales operations, said in a statement. “As we expected, the economy continues to strengthen. In addition, our award-winning new products are performing well, we have more on the way and our dealers are winning accolades for outstanding service.”

All GM brands recorded gains in year-over-year sales for April, with Buick and Chevrolet reporting double-digit increases. In total, GM sold 254,076 cars, up from 237,646 last April.

The company said it expects it Market share has increased since March.
