Campbell police investigate gunfire

Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the area of Murray Avenue, Jackson Street and Jean Street shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday. Callers also reported that children were screaming during the incident.

Upon officers' arrival in the area, they noticed numerous Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority residents flagging them down and pointing toward the Murray Avenue apartments. Police confirmed that the gunfire had originated in a grassy area behind the areas of two addresses on Murray Avenue, where they observed footprints but could not find shell casings in the high, wet grass.

Officers then patrolled and secured the entire area, and remained there for a while afterward. The incident is still under investigation.
