Scouts will host awards dinner

Greater Western Reserve Council of Boy Scouts of America, Whispering Pines District, will host its annual District Award Dinner for the 2013 volunteers.

This year the dinner will be Sunday at St. James Episcopal Church, 7260 Glenwood Ave. A social will begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served at 6, and a program will follow.

The event will honor 33 Scouts who have earned their Eagle Scout Award in 2013, the highest award in Boy Scouts.

Other honors will include Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews and Scout volunteers. The feature of the evening will be the award of two District Awards of Merit, the highest honor a district can give to a volunteer. Outstanding Scout volunteers at the district level are eligible.

The Whispering Pines District serves families in Mahoning County and Hubbard. There are 536 adult volunteers leading 42 units with 1,215 youth participating.
