EAGLE SCOUTS

Taylor Christian, son of Ellen and Edward Christian of Salem, has earned his Eagle Scout Award, Scouting’s highest honor, and his court-of-honor ceremony is planned for later this spring. He is a member of Troop 80, chartered to Mount Olivet United Church of Christ, and his scoutmaster is Kurt Hilderbrand.

Taylor has been involved in Scouting since 2003. He has earned his Tiger, Bear, Wolf, Webelo and Arrow of Light awards in Cub Scout Pack 1365 in Hickory, Pa., before joining Troop 80. He joined Troop 80 in 2011, serving in troop positions of den chief, junior assistant scoutmaster, senior patrol leader, patrol leader and troop trainer.

Taylor has camped a total of 40 nights, completed more than 265 hours of service projects and has earned a total 24 merit badges. He has attended four years of summer camp at Camp Independence and Liberty in Pennsylvania.

In 2011, he participated in a 125-mile, 10-day backing trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. Taylor also has earned the Messenger of Peace, Leave No Trace, Tote and Chit, Fire and Chit, Fifty Miler and the Historic Trails awards.

For his Eagle Scout service project, he planned, coordinated and supervised the construction of picnic tables and benches for Paradise United Church of Christ in Canfield.

Taylor is a senior at South Range High School, where he is a member of the high-school academic challenge team, National Honor Society and a Boys State alumnus.

John David Sturdevant, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert G. Sturdevant of Howland, received the Eagle Scout Award at a court-of-honor ceremony last month at Howland Community Church.

John is a member of Greater Western Reserve Council Boy Scout Troop 28. The Eagle award was presented by Michael McLeod, Troop 28 Scoutmaster.

John joined Troop 28 in 2008 after earning his Arrow of Light with Cub Scout Pack 122. With Troop 28, John has had leadership positions of senior patrol leader, troop instructor, troop guide and patrol leader. He has earned a total of 26 merit badges.

His Eagle Scout service project was a presentation on bullying that was given at Howland Community Church.

John is a junior at Howland High School. He is active in speech and debate, choir and band.

Matthew Rea, son of Monica Rea and Michael Rea of Girard, has earned his Eagle Scout Award. He was honored in a court-of-honor ceremony Saturday at Rosetta Hall in St. Rose Church.

Matthew is a member of Girard Troop 40.

For his Eagle Scout service project, Matthew worked with Girard city officials and local veterans organizations, collecting more than 100 flags from the organizations. He then organized and executed a flag-retirement ceremony.

His leadership positions within his troop include being a camp counselor for two years at Moraine Trails Council’s Camp Bucoco Boy Scout camp and Camp Agawam Cub Scout camp.

Matthew is a senior at McDonald High School. He participates in track and is a member of the academic competition team.
