Son dies in Friday night fire in Salem

SALEM

A man was killed in a fire at an 861 S. Lincoln Ave. home Friday evening.

Firefighters were called to the home by police about 9:35 p.m. and found flames on the second floor. The mother of the victim made it outside and told firefighters her son was on the second floor. Firefighters tried to get inside to find him, found his father wandering on the first floor. They took him outside.

However, the heat from the fire made it difficult for firefighters to get to the victim. He was found and taken to a hospital where he later died, reports say.

A fire department spokesman would not release the man’s name today, saying only that he was middle-aged.

The state fire marshal is investigating.
