Schools fare well at competitions


Fifteen students from Poland Middle School and McKinley Elementary School participated in the Mahoning County Math 24 Competition at Youngstown State University.

Tony Gallo, Grace Economus, Tom Landry, Will Davies, Jared Tucker, Ashlin Rabindra, Tyler Berry, Jake Bacon, Christian Marantis, Bailey Swogger, Noah Landry, Kevin Rabindra and Marik Rogenski all made it to the field of 16 in their respective grade competition. Students placing in the top 16 were invited to the Mahoning-Trumbull County Competition at Warren Harding High School.

Overall, Tom Landry placed second and Tony Gallo placed third in the fifth-grade competition. Tyler Berry placed fourth, Ashlin Rabindra placed third and Jared Tucker placed first in the sixth-grade competition. Noah Landry placed fourth in the eighth-grade competition.

In the Mahoning-Trumbull County Competition, Tony Gallo, Tom Landry, Jared Tucker, Ashlin Rabindra, Tyler Berry and Noah Landry all made it to the field of 16. In their respective grade competition, Tom Landry finished fourth, Noah Landry finished second and Jared Tucker finished first. This is Tucker’s second consecutive first place finish at the Mahoning-Trumbull County Competition and his third straight first place finish at the Mahoning County Competition.

McKinley Elementary School teachers Laura Spey and Stephanie Beaudis work with all of the students during the school year.
