Poland duo place at Top Gun tournament

Poland wrestlers traveled to Alliance for one of the top high school wrestling tournaments in the country with over 40 teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and one team from California, Clovis High School, who are ranked nationally in the top five. The Bulldogs advanced four wrestlers to day two of competition, but senior Abe Kassem and sophomore Anthony Audi fell short of the podium by just one match. Audi was defeated by one point in a double overtime match and Kassem, who lost his opening match to the soon-to-be tournament champ from CVCA, battled back pinning his next four opponents before losing a close match to Garrette Reinwalk from Fort Lebo.

The Seminary Grapplers’ last year’s state qualifying duo sophomore Dante Ginnetti and senior Mike Audi both advanced to the medal rounds with Ginnetti placing fifth, defeating a host of wrestlers including a first period pin with his signature move the “Spladle” against top ranked senior Tristan Buxton.

Audi came away with a fourth place finish, advancing all the way to the semifinals before losing his first match by one point in the final seconds to Russel Miller of Miami Trace. He then defeated Brody Brand, one of the top ranked wrestlers in the state of California, 6-4 to advance into the finals.
