A Youngstown man who was painting a bathroom at Green Acres Lake Park has died after being burned Wednesday.

A spokesman for the Summit County Coroner’s office said 49-year-old Joseph Blystone died in the burn unit at Akron Children’s Hospital, where he was taken after being burned about 3:45 p.m.

The spokesman said Blystone was painting inside the bathroom and had a space heater. A witness called authorities after seeing Blystone running out of the bathroom on fire, the spokesman said. Milton Township police are investigating.

Elevators approved

The city’s board of control Thursday approved the final change order to replace three elevators at 20 Federal Place. As part of a deal to get VXI to locate to the building in 2009 and 2010, the city agreed to replace the three elevators in the lobby and all of the windows on the two floors occupied by the call-center company. The cost is about $1.5 million.

Pet-a-llama event

The Lucky Llama 4-H club will provide alpaca llamas for petting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday outside Tractor Supply Company, 6625 Mahoning Ave.

The club also will be collecting donations for a Harvest for Hunger campaign to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley.

The Lucky Llama 4-H club has been in existence for 14 years and averages 15 to 20 members per year ranging in age from 8 to 18. The club has hosted the llama-petting event for Second Harvest each March since 2003, and has raised $4,400 during that time.

The Sebring school board will have a special meeting in executive session at 4:30 p.m. today in the library of B.L. Miller Elementary School, 506 W. Virginia Ave., to discuss personnel matters.

Burglary reported

AUSTINTOWN

Township police are investigating a burglary in which jewelry, coins and medication were reported stolen from a residence.

A house on South Main Street was broken into sometime between 9 and 11 p.m. Monday. Watches and $5,000 worth of coins along with prescription medication were taken. Police did not know how the burglar or burglars gained entrance to the home. The report was made Wednesday.

Greek celebration

The 14th annual Greek Independence Day Parade begins at noon Sunday at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St. The parade travels west on High Street and north on Mahoning Avenue to Warren City Hall, where the Greek flag will be raised, followed by a short ceremony.
