WARREN

Trumbull County commissioners are in negotiations with Phillips/Sekanick Architects of Warren to design a building of 4,000 to 5,000 square feet for the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission.

A resolution commissioners approved Wednesday says the cost for the design services will be less than $50,000 and that Phillips/Sekanick is the most qualified company to handle the work.

The company also will earn less than $50,000 to carry out design services for a master plan for development of the vacant land near the former First Place Bank building on East Market Street, where the Veterans Service Commission will be built.

The county acquired the former First Place Bank building and about 22 parcels of vacant land near the bank and on the next block east. All together, the vacant land comprises nearly an entire city block.

Commissioners also approved a resolution thanking Niles Mayor Ralph Infante and Mark Hess, the Niles engineering and grants coordinator, for their contributions to Trumbull County public transportation.

Infante and Hess were critical to the operation of Niles-Trumbull Transit until the city turned over the service to the county commissioners, who formed the Trumbull Transit Board. The board took over operation of the service at the beginning of 2012.

In the resolution, the commissioners also thanked Infante and Hess for their help during the transition.
