A review of the personnel file of former Sebring school district Superintendent Christopher Lewis portrays him as a “commendable” leader of the district.
Lewis was suspended with pay by the board of education on Monday and replaced by Elementary School Principal Toni Viscounte.
The board has not given an explanation for the suspension.
The Vindicator requested Lewis’ personnel file and the resignation letter of former board member Brian Whitlatch in a public-records request sent Monday.
In the personnel file, there are letters from Lewis and his supporters sent to bolster his application for superintendent of the district.
Lewis first wrote to the district in February 2012 stating that he was “extremely interested” in the position.
Lewis’ background includes being the director of educational services and principal for the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center in Youngstown, a grant administrator for the Cuyahoga County Educational Service Center and principal of Kenston High School in Bainbridge Township, Ohio.
Lewis began working for Sebring in 2012.
Lewis scored mostly “commendable” ratings in an evaluation by the board of education in November 2013.
The suspension comes after former board member Brian Whitlatch resigned from his position in February with “great sadness and regret,” according to a letter he wrote to the district.
“Due to my current job situation and my total lack of respect and understanding of the newly elected board members along with the new challenges that I am faced with in my daily job, I cannot, nor do I want to continue to serve,” Whitlatch wrote.
